Beginning of the annual broom race in Sweden. Entrants race a course of 437 miles from Kopparberg to Arjeplog. The course runs through Swedish Short-Snout dragon territory, and the enormous silver trophy is in the shape of Short-Snout.

Witches and wizards were using primitive broomsticks for transportation, but these broomsticks were far from perfect. A German illuminated manuscript shows wizards dismounting early flying broomsticks in pain.

England had been ravaged by Danish raids every year from 997 to 1001, and in 1002 the king was told that the Danish men in England 'would faithlessly take his life, and then all his councillors, and possess his kingdom afterwards.' In response, he ordered slain all the Danish men who were in England.
There were magic folk amongst those that were murdered.

The Founders split. Salazar Slytherin leaves the school after creating the Chamber of Secrets.
1005
Helena Ravenclaw steals her mother's diadem. She hides the diadem inside a tree in Albania before being killed by the Bloody Baron (who then committs suicide). Rowena Ravenclaw dies not long after her daughter.

The Deathly Hallows are created by the Peverell Brothers.

The Wizards' Council declares that Quidditch should not be played anywhere near anyplace where there is the slightest chance that a Muggle might be watching.
